Responsible Trade and Knowledge (www.Responsi.TK)

There is a growing appreciation of the importance of engagement with and development of the private sector in order to achieve the [Millennium Development Goals] (MDGs). In this Web site we promote programs to create an enabling the business fabric; provide access to key skills, knowledge and capital to SMEs and facilitate access to market to the private sector engaged in the MDG.

A key player in today's responsible business are [international cooperation] among people, organizations, governments and agencies. The UN has significant activities involving the private sector with agencies such as UNESCO or UNEP, and UNDP who helps developing the indigenous private sector and supporting development of inclusive markets.

The Responsi.TK "Responsible Trade & Knowledge" site is a forum for promoting the corporate social responsibility in international development toward the global issues known as MDGs. Part of this effort is the cooperation project Bio4All.TK, providing free software toolkits to companies involved in equitable trade and medical research. The Response Forum wants to develop and implement strategies for engaging the private sector in development, based on UNDP's new corporate strategy for working with the private sector.

The Impact of Computing in Health

With a Social and Environmental Responsible commitment, corporations can, for instance, share the unused CPU cycles of their corporate computers. The idea of employing unused computing time is analogous to the successful Protein@Home , Peer2Peer, Rose/tta@Home BOINC , and [Grid] (Cern Egee PhysGrid) initiatives. We are proposing now to apply this in Health Research and Emergency situations. While you do not use your personal computer or your company server, the unused-CPU can carry other tasks such as precessing research data of scientist working on [Aids, Tuberculose, Paludism, Alzheimer, Dengue, Hepatitis...]
The picture shows a Red blood cell infected with malaria (falciparum, Malaria, Vivax, Ovale) there is no known vaccination yet, however there are prevention measures at several levels (including that treatment should continue 1 month after the exposure in order to prevent for the hepatic refuge). It is a world problem and even in Turkey there is paludism, althought in its Vivax form and not the dangerous falciparum. Todays research use a large set of software resources, hence the idea of sharing CPU-cycles for critical health research. BOINC

International Cooperation

“ The expanding digital divide is producing a new dimension of poverty - information poverty - highly significant and visible. Our goal involves sustainability and capacity-building: teach to do, rather than just doing; build the capacity of those who will maintain the system (such as GIS for environmental monitoring) “

International cooperation and volunteering provides an extremely value support for task ranging to sharing language skills in translations to specific skills in scientific data handling, statistics calculations and graph preparation. Thus, The Respose.TK forum support the development of projects in the focal areas of children, indigenous populations, environmental biodiversity, water, endangered species... and cooperated in some of these areas with Professional Services for private and public actors : UNDP UNICEF BETAPOLITIQUE INES INTERQ UNESCO. Specific projects are:

UNDP NY and UNICEF Tacro document preparation promoting Sports for Children in LAC. Help UNDP Brazil with a report in English/Spanish on Latin America analysis. Apply IQ Models to Analysis of Internet in Africa, for Unesco . and Databases support for UNDP Afghanistan.

UNESCO's Open Training Platform provides free learning tools in many areas, including Entrepreneurship 4 sustainable development . On March 2007, the UNESCO Communication and Information Sector officially launched its Open Training Platform. Environment

Environment is now an obvious issue with short-term dangers worldwide. Wise use of the world's natural resources is a theme underlying much of UNEP work. The value of the ecosystem services that nature provides for free has been estimated to be almost twice the value of society's economic activities. The Life Cycle Initiative is a programme committed to facilitate the implementation of Life Cycle Approaches worldwide (lcinitiative.unep.fr). UNEP SETAC International Life Cycle Partnership for a sustainable world, an Initiative that also support good business practices;

One of UNEP’s main functions is to keep the world environmental situation under review. The objective being to ensure that emerging environmental problems of wide international significance receive appropriate and adequate considerations. An ongoing multi-stakeholder consultative process to strengthen the scientific base of UNEP is referred to as the Science Initiative , which website helps facilitate, and to report on, the process.

Climateprediction.net is the largest experiment to try and produce a forecast of the climate in the 21st century. To do this, the net collects processing power around the world from people that donate time on their computers - time when they have their computers switched on, but are not using them to their full capacity. The previous BBC Climate Change Experiment, launched as a collaboration with climateprediction.net in spring 2006, has closed to new participants. they asked for any spare computing power to predict future climate. Developed for the BBC by climate scientists, led by Oxford University, using the Met Office climate model. UK temperature should expect a 4°C rise by 2080 according to the most likely results of the experiment. Heatwaves are on the rise and, by 2080, summer temperatures of 40°C will be common. Winters will also be warmer.

Investments in Science and Technology

With the goal of investing in co-responsibility for a global and sustainable development, we work on a number of key documents and reports from organizations like the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD based in Paris), who published a Science, Technology and Industry Outlook , or the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB, based in Washington DC), which published the following list of projects in Science and Technology.
